Your typical dinner and drinks to celebrate a milestone or special occasion no longer does it for me, so I decided to treat my sister Joan for her birthday this year to an adventure weekend in the Adirondacks, with an all-day whitewater rafting trip and a mini morning hike followed by lunch in the great outdoors.
Even though she’s been a New Yorker for a couple of years now (previously living in Manhattan, now in Astoria), she hadn’t made it up to the part of Upstate New York I’ve gotten to know and love until this weekend. Figured this was the best way to get her to come up, with the help of her best friends (also City Slickers) Ana and Jill. My girlfriend Amber also came along for the ride.
And as I expected, Joan enjoyed every minute of it, even gushing about it on social media. But she wasn’t the only one–we ALL did too! Here are some of the highlights from this weekend’s adventures in the ADKs:

Thanks to the people at Adventure Sports Rafting, especially our superfun tour guide Alex, for taking good care of us, good weather and all. We will definitely be back!
But if you’re not really into whitewater rafting and looking for something a little bit more mild, there are other activities you can choose from to enjoy the ADKs including hiking, camping, kayaking/canoeing, SUPing, etc. Find out more at the official Adirondacks website www.VisitAdirondacks.com.
