Today, I was doing work with one of my favorite Senators who just happens to be the most fashionable Senator I know and was inspired by her to do a quick sketch of what I would’ve designed for her to wear at the most recent Met Gala…thus beginning my fictional eveningwear (among other things) line: djoli Couture. Be on the lookout for the first collection!

My sister describes this drawing as “creepy” most likely because of the dark, solemn hues I used for the background, and perhaps the distorted facial expressions of the characters in the foreground.. Whatever it is..it’s pretty good for a 16-year old to recreate from a 4 X 7 photo into an 18 X 24 colored-pencil masterpiece! Just look at the folds and shading work of the jackets and sweatpants!

I pat myself on the back for this work.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, my sister is the tiny one with chicken legs (to the right) and I’m the bigger one with tiny hands (to the left). We were only 8 and 10 in this picture collectively, playing on the backyard of our old house in Sciota, PA.

I’m all about branding and I apply it in everything I do especially the events that I organize and host. In 2010, my siblings and I threw my mom a birthday bash to celebrate her 60th birthday so I designed this brand to be representative of the event. Here is the brand on mugs.

I hope I don’t get in trouble for posting this but it’s an early entrepreneurial venture I am very proud of because it’s the one that made me realize my love and aptitude for entrepreneurship. I was only a junior in high school when I came up with the idea of producing a calendar that featured the popular guys of my high school, then selling it for $10 per copy. It sold out within 1-2 days.
Here is the complete calendar.

The images of the calendar are scans of copies of the originals and are not of the best quality…but you get the idea. Oh, and they didn’t have the Internet or publishing program back then so the layout was done by the local printer, not me. I would’ve done it differently. Thanks to all the guys that agreed to let me oil them up and take pictures of them; if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be the entrepreneur that I am today!
